Tomato Bovine heart: features of the variety and cultivation technology
For a long time, the Bovine Heart tomato served as a standard among large-fruited varieties, and today it has already become a classic. Differs in very tasty and beautiful fruits. Novice gardeners should sow a few seeds in order to be able to compare and find the best options in the future, or to stop there. The bovine heart cannot be called an unpretentious tomato. He needs special care, otherwise he will not be able to get a large harvest of large fruits.
The history of growing tomatoes Bovine heart
Just as folk tales have no authors and no age, so this tomato: it appeared from nowhere, no one knows the name of the breeder, but many love it, grow it and pass this tradition on from generation to generation. On packs of seeds, they often write: a variety of folk selection.
On bags with seeds you can often find the phrase - "a variety of national selection"
On Wikipedia, you can read that the variety was bred by the Poisk agrofirm. Meanwhile, the bull's heart was still raised by my grandmother, whose youth fell on the Great Patriotic War. That is, the variety was known and popular already in the 40s of the last century, and the Poisk company was founded in 1990. Italian origin is also attributed to the Bull's Heart, it is called a hybrid. However, this version can be refuted, the variety grows beautifully from its own seeds. I also found other information that this is an old family variety from Novopavlovsk, Stavropol Territory. Different versions of the origin only confirm the popularity of this tomato. Perhaps they are trying to make it more attractive to a new generation of gardeners.
And you can find such seeds, here the Bull Heart is presented as a Dutch hybrid
The Moscow agrofirm "Poisk" submitted an application for registration of the Bull's Heart tomatoes in the State Register of Plants. It happened in 2001. In 2003, the variety, known to more than one generation, received the status of an officially recognized selection achievement, allowed for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation. Agrofirma Poisk LLC became the rightholder.

To date, many varieties of Bovine Heart with fruits of different colors have been created and registered. So, there is a Bull heart pink, gold, cream, raspberry, orange, peach, black, chocolate, amber and compact. They are similar in shape and size to their prototype.
Description of the variety
Bovine heart is a medium-late ripening variety. It can take 120–130 days from germination to harvesting the first crop. The bush grows high - 130-180 cm, the stem is powerful, the leaves are large. The first flower cluster is tied over 8–9 leaves. Tomato needs pinching, formation and rationing of fruits. When grown in one stem, 8-10 brushes are laid.
The average weight of fruits is 108–225 g, in the first cluster - 400–800 g, in subsequent ones they are smaller up to 100 g. Their shape is heart-shaped, there is a sharpening at the top. According to the description from the State Register, the surface is smooth, but gardeners call those bushes that give ribbed fruits a real Bull's heart.
A characteristic feature of tomatoes Bull heart - the ribbing of the fruit is entrenched among the people
Unripe tomatoes are light green, and the stem has a dark green spot characteristic of the variety. The ripe fruit is red, there are very few seeds inside. The pulp is fleshy, aromatic, with an excellent taste: sweet with a slight sourness. The main purpose is salad. Bovine heart is not suitable for whole-fruit canning due to its large size and thin skin.
Tomato Bovine heart fleshy inside, few seeds
The yield declared in the State Register is 3-4 kg / m², and the planting scheme is 5 plants per square meter. Indeed, many gardeners complain about the low yield, however, there are those who collect 3-5 kg from a bush in the open field, and even more in a greenhouse. As with any other varieties, the productivity of the Oxheart directly depends on climatic conditions and care.
In the greenhouse, the Oxheart will be more productive than in the open field

Growing Tomatoes Bovine Heart
A variety with a long growing season will have to be grown through seedlings. The optimal age of tomatoes for planting in a permanent place is 50–70 days. For the Ox heart, you should choose the maximum period. To figure out the planting date, count down 70 days plus a week for emergence from the day you plan to plant the tomatoes.
In South-West Siberia, frosts definitely do not happen after June 7-10. This means that I can sow the Oxheart tomatoes on March 23, and if I build a greenhouse, then 2 weeks earlier - after March 8. It is during these periods that I sow all the tomatoes. I grow them with 2-3 picks. In the same way, you can make a calculation for any region. Indeed, in different regions and regions, heat comes at different times. In the south, sowing is done in greenhouses or hotbeds, in the rest of Russia, seedlings are kept on window sills.
Bovine heart in almost all regions is grown through seedlings
Like any variety, the Bovine heart suffers from late blight. Fungi can live on the surface of seeds and in the ground, so disinfect the seeds before sowing: scald the seeds and spill boiling water over the ground. Those who are afraid of drastic measures can use a purple solution of potassium permanganate. During the seedling period, make 2-3 transplants of tomatoes in a more spacious container. Water as the soil dries up. Feed every two weeks with a special fertilizer for seedlings, for example, Fertika Lux.

A week before planting in open ground, start hardening the tomatoes, that is, take them out under the open sky, first for 1-2 hours, gradually increase this time to a whole day. While hardening is in progress, prepare the bed.
Planting seedlings to a permanent place
Select a sunny area under the Bull's heart, taking into account the planting pattern - 50x50 cm. Dig up the ground by adding a bucket of humus or compost and 2 glasses of ash to each square meter of the bed. During planting, you can additionally add a spoonful of a complex mixture for tomatoes, for example, Gumi-Omi, to each hole. The variety has great vigor and therefore needs more nutrition than compact tomatoes. Make the holes in such a size that the seedlings can be buried to the first true leaf, and the overgrown up to 2-3 leaves. Fill the wells with water. When it is absorbed, you can start planting.
Tomato seedlings can be buried
The best precursors for tomatoes are cabbage and cucumbers, and should not be planted after potatoes and physalis.
Prevention of late blight
The harvest of the Bovine Heart ripens at the end of summer, when the likelihood of late blight increases. Even on green fruits, signs of infection appear - brown depressed spots. However, it will be too late to process with chemicals. That is why the disease must be prevented, that is, prevented. A week after planting the seedlings, as soon as it takes root, spray it with a fungicide solution (HOM, Skor, Ridomil, etc.). Moisten the soil around the bushes with the preparation. Repeat the treatment after 2 weeks. In this way, you will at least postpone the onset of the disease by 4-6 weeks, but, most likely, destroy possible foci of infection.
Late blight on already grown tomatoes cannot be cured, but it can be prevented.
In the future, watch the bushes, tear off the stained, yellowing leaves and burn or throw them away. Such plant residues must not be added to the compost. Late blight fungi can live in the ground for several years. Fertilizing your site, you spread them across all the beds.
Watering and feeding
Watering in the cultivation of the Ox heart is of great importance. Fruits are prone to cracking, and this happens due to sudden jumps in humidity and fluctuations in daily temperatures. For example, during the day the heat may be above +30 ⁰C, at night the temperature drops to +15 ... +18 ⁰C, it becomes damp. Fruits, then wither in the sun, then fill with moisture, cracking occurs.
Cracking of tomatoes occurs due to sudden changes in temperature and humidity.
To prevent this from happening, you need regular watering and mulching with a layer of at least 6-7 cm. Mulch will not only retain moisture, but also maintain a constant temperature in the root zone.
Video: why tomatoes crack
The rates and frequency of watering depend on the age of the bush and weather conditions. However, even if it rains, check if the soil is soaked to a root depth of at least 30 cm. If not, watering is needed. In dry and hot weather, water the Bovine Heart twice a week at the rate:
- for a recently planted still growing bush - 2-3 liters;
- for those who have grown up to 1.5 meters and above - 3-5 liters.
Water the tomatoes at the root, water consumption depends on the size of the bush
The bovine heart requires feeding with complex fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace elements. The easiest option is to buy ready-made mixtures marked “for tomatoes”. Infusions of mullein, bird droppings, urea solution and other fertilizers containing mainly nitrogen are suitable only until the first inflorescence is formed. Nitrogen provokes vigorous growth of leaves and shoots to the detriment of the harvest.
For top dressing, use special fertilizers, they contain all the nutrients that tomatoes need
On poor clay soils, a tall tomato needs to be fed every 10-14 days, on cultivated loams and chernozems - once every 3-4 weeks. If, nevertheless, you use organic matter, then after 3-4 days be sure to add wood ash - 1-2 tbsp. l. under the bush. It will enrich the earth with potassium, phosphorus and trace elements. It is impossible to introduce ash simultaneously with nitrogen fertilizer: together they form a volatile compound - ammonia. Most of the nutrients will be volatilized rather than entering the soil.
Grasshopping, bush formation and crop rationing
The bull's heart must be pinned, that is, pluck out the shoots that grow in the axils of the leaves below the first flower brush. The stepsons located above and the one closest below it are used for shaping. Usually tomatoes are grown in 1-3 stems:
- in the regions of risky farming - in one;
- in greenhouses - 2-3 stems;
- in the south, in conditions of long and warm summers, the fruits can ripen on three stems even in the open field.
In this regard, Bullheart invites you to experiment: plant several bushes and grow them with different formation.
Scheme of the formation of bushes in one, two and three stems; used stepchildren growing directly above or below the first flower brush
Once I also grew a bull's heart tomato. Shaped, like everyone else - in two stems. However, in the conditions of our Siberian climate, the bushes grew low - less than a meter, only one large fruit was set on each, the rest were small, did not grow until autumn, went into compost. Since then I have not grown this variety. But now I want to try different types of shaping, maybe I'll put it in a greenhouse. It is interesting to prove to myself that I can find an approach to this variety.
Gardeners, trying to get a good harvest of the Ox heart, even do rationing of fruits in the clusters (leave 2-3), and also limit the number of clusters on one plant. There is an experience of growing in one stem with 7–8 clusters on it. Then the fruits have time to grow and ripen. Again, in regions with a short summer, tomatoes do not have time to sing on the bushes. They are harvested in technical ripeness, still green, with subsequent ripening. As a result, the plant has the strength to grow the remaining fruits. For the same purpose, at the end of July - beginning of August, the tops of all the stems are pinched and still flowering brushes are cut off.

Harvesting, ripening, harvest assignment
Bovine heart tomatoes can be picked at any stage of maturity: from technical (green) to biological (red). But as long as the tomatoes are green, it is difficult to determine if they have reached their size or will still grow. Therefore, if you collect unripe, then focus on a color change, as soon as a yellowish or reddish tint appears - pluck. Dozing can be done by spreading it out on windowsills or in boxes or baskets in 1-2 layers. Put 2-3 ripe tomatoes in each box, the rest will ripen faster.
If tomatoes in your area do not have time to ripen on the bushes, pick them green and ripen at home
Purpose of tomatoes Bull heart - table, they are very tasty fresh, mainly used for the preparation of salads. Juice is made from the fruits of this variety. You can cut the tomatoes into wedges and freeze. Such preparation in winter will be an excellent addition to pizza, soups, side dishes, sauces.
Reviews of gardeners
Bovine heart is a delicious tomato, but it requires special attention. For this reason, the variety is not very suitable for gardeners who cannot spend a lot of time on their plots. Despite the difficulties in care, it can be recommended for beginners, but it is worth limiting yourself to a few bushes and not making the Bull's Heart the main variety. Experiment, try different formations. For the right one, you will receive a reward - a good harvest of large and juicy fruits.

Characteristics and description of the bovine heart tomato variety
Tomato variety Bull heart is heard by all gardeners.A lot of photographs with giant fruits in their hands are walking on pages and Internet sites about summer and successful harvests.
The gigantic size of the fleshy tomatoes and their original taste make the Bull Heart variety a permanent resident of gardeners 'and gardeners' plots. With a good harvest, you can feast on vitamin salads all summer.
However, even with experienced summer residents, it happens that the harvest is not as good as expected. What are the reasons for the undisclosed varietal characteristics, we will consider in the article.
Acquaintance with the variety
Say "Bull Heart", imagine a huge red meaty tomato. This is the main feature of the variety - the weight of tomatoes is up to 900 grams. Let's expand the idea of the Oxheart tomato: consider the description of what is laid down by nature, how to grow a healthy plant, in what form to use the crop.
The breeders of Agrofirma Poisk LLC strengthened the characteristics, gave a detailed description of the Bychie Heart variety, in 2003 it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements recommended for the territory of the Russian Federation.
Experts recommend the Oxheart for greenhouses and greenhouses, except in the southern regions, where the variety is harvested and in open areas. The natural qualities of the original variety have strong immunity against viruses, infections and insects.
The characteristics of the variety say that the fruiting process occurs after 130 days. In the description of the characteristics of the crop, we find that on the first clusters the fruits have time to ripen, the rest of the tomatoes are removed in a blanche state of ripeness.
The variety has an average immunity to diseases in its characteristics, the highest danger is, according to the description, late blight.
These tomatoes are characterized by good performance in long-term transportation, they retain freshness and taste within 95%.
The original variety has many hybrid forms, which necessarily retain the main characteristic - a large tomato.
Brief description of hybrids of the Bull Heart variety:
- "Bovine heart orange" (mid-season, up to 1.6 m, fruits 300-400 gr.)
- "Bovine heart pink" (mid-season, up to 1.5 m, fruits 100-400 gr, greenhouse / ground)
- "Bovine heart red" (mid-season, up to 1.7 m, fruits 150-500 gr, greenhouse / ground)
- "Bull heart black" (mid-season, up to 1.7 m, fruits 500-600 gr, greenhouses / ground)
- "White bull heart" (late ripening, rich burgundy color).
A significant difference in the description of the characteristics of the hybrids was noted only in the color of the fruits. There is little difference in the height of the plants and the weight of the tomatoes.
Description of tomato bushes
Bovine Heart Tomatoes ripen on indeterminate, non-standard plants. They are powerful, spreading, crown with a few medium-sized leaves.
The length of the main stem reaches two meters in protected ground, slightly lower on open ridges. In both cases, tomatoes need support. The bushes are recommended to be molded into two stems. The growth of the tomato ends, as 5-6 brushes with tied fruits are formed.
The expected inflorescence comes out after the ninth leaf, each following two leaves. One brush is capable of producing up to 5-6 tomatoes.
Reproduction of the Bull's heart is seedling. The material can be purchased seeds or prepared from their own tomatoes.
Description and distinctive characteristics of the fruit
Weight. An important characteristic of the variety are tomatoes of various shapes and weights per bush. Large fruits up to 500-800 grams ripen on the first clusters, all the following ones reach sizes of 100-150 grams. Record tomatoes from experienced gardeners were poured up to 1 kg.
The form. Tomatoes are recognizable by their melting heart-shaped shape, which gave the variety its name. Ribbing is weak.
Color and content. The color of the tomatoes depends on the species, the original variety produces bright red tomatoes. Hybrids can be grown in yellow-orange, pink, black. A thin rind covers the flesh. It is fleshy, dense and low-water without veins. The tomato contains up to five small chambers that contain a small amount of seeds.
Taste and nutrients. The high sugar content makes the pulp sweet. Flavored tomatoes are nutritious and suitable for diets. They are rich in fiber and vitamins, acids and other minerals.
Storage. Bovine hearts retain their characteristics in a cool room for up to two weeks. Further, they need to be processed so as not to lose their useful qualities and taste.
Productivity and use of tomatoes
The bovine heart, according to its varietal characteristics, belongs to the fruitful species. One bush, with proper agricultural technology, gives up to five kilograms of tomatoes in open beds, and in a greenhouse - up to twelve kilograms.
Tomatoes of this variety are harvested as they ripen throughout the summer and early autumn. If the climate allows and the weather conditions are favorable, then fruiting will be throughout September.
The description of the fruits suggests that the Oxheart tomato corresponds to the salad group. In summer, it is usually consumed fresh in various vitamin salads. Tomatoes are also tasty when cooked in soup dressings, sauces, pastas, ketchups.
Preservation of tomatoes is only possible "sliced". There are many recipes for marinating, pickles and Oxheart salads.
Agricultural technology in various conditions
The Bull's Heart variety has been leading for many years on personal plots, industrial cultivation is troublesome. The tomato cultivation technique is described in detail by both manufacturers and experienced summer residents.
Breeding rules for open beds and greenhouses are the same from seed preparation to picking tomatoes. The only difference is the timing.
In early March, they take seed to germinate. The seeds are washed, soaked in a pink solution (potassium permanganate) for disinfection. After this procedure, they are immersed in the prepared earth for three centimeters. As it grows in containers (plastic boxes or individual cups), the soil is poured. In the southern regions, sowing is done in mid-February.
Seedlings are picked after the appearance of three true leaves on each tomato bush. During the growth period, the seedlings are fed twice with complex fertilizers. Before planting in open ground, it is tempered in the fresh air at a temperature of more than 18 ° C every day for several hours for two weeks.
Site and soil
Heated greenhouse or not heated, open beds are dug up for tomatoes in the fall, adding compost and manure, removing weed roots. At the same time, fertilizers are applied with superphosphate, potassium.
Important! The soil should be fertile and light.
In the spring, the soil is re-dug up before planting tomatoes. For unprotected areas, choose a place that is warm, sunny, sheltered from the winds.
Disembarkation time and scheme
A heated greenhouse can receive bovine heart tomato bushes in April, a cold one in May.
Tomatoes are planted in open ground only after the last frost, provided the soil warms up to 16 ° C. The first days of June are ideal.
Attention! It is recommended to plant no more than two plants per square meter.
The holes are staggered at intervals of 50x50 cm. The bushes are buried to the first sheet and immediately tied to vertical and horizontal supports.
In order for the tomatoes to receive the sun's rays in the morning and in the evening, the trellises are placed in the direction from north to south at a distance of about one meter.
Tomato planting care
Bushes require moderate watering with warm water in the evening up to three times a week. Heavy watering will cause root rot. Loosening is shown to be regular throughout the entire period of growth and fruiting.
Advice! Spraying the bushes with water activates the pollination process.
Having formed two stems for each bush, then stepchildren and extra shoots are removed. The leaves are also cut off to the brush.
For yield, no more than 7 brushes with ovaries are left on one tomato bush. Leaving two leaves over the last brush, pinch the crown.
At the time of flowering of the fifth cluster, they are fed twice with phosphorus additives, during fruiting every ten days - with potassium and nitrogen.
Stagnation of cold water in the soil leads to the appearance of late blight. Greenhouses are ventilated for prevention, watered in the open field on sunny days in the evening and manage to remove the fruits before the autumn cold snap. It is useful to treat the bushes with a fungicide twice strictly at the root. After each feeding, the area near the stem is mulched with dry grass to avoid overheating of the roots.
Reviews of gardeners about the advantages and disadvantages
Reviews of summer residents about pink tomatoes, confirmed by home photos, are the most enthusiastic. The harvest of pink tomatoes is harvested later than others, the bushes are unpretentious to weather conditions, resistant to garden sores.
Bushes of red tomatoes showed themselves to be strongly branched on the ridges, and the fruits are just as large, fleshy and sweet. The taste qualities of tomatoes of all colors are noted in each review. Two or three bushes will provide the whole family with tomatoes. The most delicious tomato juice is obtained from the Bull's heart, tomato lovers say.
Tomatoes in amateur photos are impressive in size.
Experienced gardeners share their experience of obtaining seeds at home from grown tomatoes in their area. It is economically profitable, you do not need to buy seeds.
Summer residents, who have been cultivating the Bull Heart variety for many years, rejoice at the friendly harvest, confirming this with photo facts from the ridges. Multi-colored tomatoes look great in winter preparations, experienced tomato experts generously share recipes with photos.
The Bull Heart variety requires constant attention to itself - this minus is often found in the reviews of experienced and beginner gardeners.
Diseased, overfed with fertilizers and weakened bushes will give only a few tomatoes, the expected harvest will not be. The tomatoes will be medium in size.
Violations in watering and temperatures during planting will lead, according to the observations of gardeners, to the rapid completion of growth and the appearance of ovaries. They write that cracking of the fruit often happens.
This tomato variety has a very good set of characteristics. We can say that he is one of the most successful hybrids created over the past 20 years. The combination of excellent taste properties of fruits and medium ripening times are very attractive to many gardeners.
Productivity and fruiting
With proper adherence to agricultural technology, the Orange Heart tomato is capable of producing bountiful harvests. In the open field, the yield is up to 2 kg per bush, with greenhouse cultivation - more than 4 kg per bush. Planting both in open ground and in greenhouses is recommended in 2 rows with a distance between plants of 50 cm, and between rows of 40 cm.At the same time, given the high foliage of the plant and the large size of the bushes, it is not recommended to plant more than 2-3 plants per 1 sq. ... m. Thus, depending on the cultivation method and planting density, the yield can range from 4 to 12 kg per square meter. m area.
These are ideal indicators; in reality, the results are a little more modest. According to gardeners' reviews, Orange Heart tomatoes yield about 8-10 kg per 1 sq. m of area, a typical type and size of fruits is shown in the photo below.
The maturation period in the greenhouse is about 3 months. Officially, the time is called 90-95 days, however, technical ripeness occurs about a week and a half before full. Outdoors, they are extended for another 1 month (from 120 to 135 days).
The main factor affecting yield is the way the plant is grown. When using agricultural technology in one stem, the yield will be low: it is unlikely that it will be possible to remove more than 2 kg from the bush during greenhouse cultivation. Growing a tomato Orange heart with 3 stems is technically difficult to do, given the high density of the bush.
Therefore, two-stem cultivation is used. It is it that allows you to maintain a balance in the number of bushes per unit area and ensure the maximum yield from 1 sq. m.
Scope of the fruit
The fruits of the Orange Heart tomato variety are mainly used fresh. They are used to prepare the first and second courses, in particular, hot and cold soups, side dishes, sauces. In salads, thanks to its excellent taste, this variety is practically unmatched. Tomatoes have proven themselves very well in juicing.
Due to the absence of red coloring pigment, which is a strong allergen, orange tomatoes are considered practically hypoallergenic and are recommended for baby food.
Due to its dense structure and sufficiently strong skin, the fruits of this tomato variety have good keeping quality and transportability.
However, this variety is practically unsuitable for conservation. Long-term heat treatment and stay in the marinade significantly impair the consistency of the pulp and its taste: it becomes fibrous and sour.
Disease and pest resistance
The Orange Heart tomato is highly resistant to the following diseases:
- late blight
- hide the rot
Nevertheless, one should not forget about preventive measures that have approximately the same sequence of actions for most tomato diseases.
It should also be noted that the Orange Heart tomato has relatively good resistance to aphids and ticks.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Summarizing the description and characteristics of the Orange Heart tomato variety, we can say that it has the following advantages:
- excellent taste
- increased content of useful elements in the pulp
- no allergens
- high yield
- unpretentious cultivation - the variety is recommended for cultivation in a wide variety of climatic conditions
- good resistance to the main diseases of tomatoes and their pests
- high keeping quality and transportability.
The disadvantages of the variety are:
- relative difficulty in forming a bush due to active pinching
- the impossibility of obtaining their own seed, since the variety is actually a hybrid.
Tomatoes obtained from such plants will be small, tasteless and have a wide variety of colors and shapes.
Growing Tomatoes Bovine Heart
Growing a large-fruited variety is not so easy, especially if it is the first time. Therefore, you do not need to plant a lot of tomatoes. It is better to limit yourself to a few bushes to check the features of agricultural technology on them.
All varieties of Bovine Heart tomatoes are mid-season varieties, therefore, the seedling method of growing is used. The timing of sowing tomato seeds Bovine heart for seedlings in each region will be different, since when planting in a permanent place, climatic conditions are taken into account. The average sowing time is early or mid-March.
In advance, two weeks in advance, the soil is prepared:
- It should be fertile, loose and breathable.
- The use of ready-made soil intended for growing seedlings is not prohibited.
- The soil is poured into containers scalded with boiling water.
- Then the soil is poured with boiling water with potassium permanganate. This is necessary to remove disease spores and pest larvae.
- The seed is disinfected in a pink solution of potassium permanganate for about 15 minutes, then washed with clean water.
- In the container, grooves are made with a depth of 3 cm and the seeds are spread at a distance of 2-3 cm.
- Irrigate with a syringe so as not to wash out the seed.
- Cover the top with a transparent lid to create a greenhouse effect.
You can sow seeds in a snail:
- The containers are placed in a warm, well-lit place.
- When the first hooks appear, the shelter is removed, and the seedlings are transferred to a cool place (there should be a lot of light) for 2-3 days so that the sprouts do not stretch out.
- When two true leaves appear on the plants, the sprouts are transplanted into separate containers.
- A pick is a prerequisite for obtaining seedlings with powerful roots.
At the stage of growing seedlings, 2-3 dressings are carried out. Can be used:
- wood ash
- ammonia solution
- potassium permanganate.
Water the tomatoes sparingly, not allowing the soil to dry out. After watering, shallow loosening is carried out.
Two weeks before planting the seedlings in a permanent place, the tomatoes are hardened. For this, the plants are taken out into the air, first for 10 minutes in partial shade, then the time is increased.
Transplanting a tomato
In the south of Russia, tomato varieties are grown in the open air. In harsher conditions, greenhouses or greenhouses will be required to produce crops.
Planting in protected ground is carried out at the end of April, if the greenhouse has heating. In other cases - in the last days of May. Tomato seedlings are planted in open ground when warm weather sets in, the threat of frost return will disappear, around mid-June.
Before digging, compost (1 bucket), wood ash (2 glasses) are added to the ground on each square. Wells are made and spilled with warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate.
Seedlings are planted if they are not higher than 20-25 cm to the first true leaf while standing. If the seedlings have outgrown, they deepen it. It is best to plant the bushes lying down.
After planting, the plants are well watered, and the soil around them is mulched with humus or dry straw to retain moisture and create comfortable conditions for the root system.
Growing Bovine Heart Tomatoes in a Greenhouse
Caring for tomatoes Bovine heart in a greenhouse is complicated by high humidity and temperature. We will have to provide timely ventilation in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases and the reproduction of pests. In hot weather, open the vents completely so that all the moisture comes out.
Tomatoes are watered abundantly once a week. At first, up to 7 liters of water are poured under the bushes, later - a little more than a bucket. If the weather is very hot, then watering is more frequent, up to 1.5 buckets of water are consumed per plant.
Irrigation is carried out only at the root before sunrise or in the evening. Water should not get on the leaves. The best option is the construction of drip irrigation.
When growing tomatoes in greenhouses, the temperature is maintained at 20-22 degrees during the daytime, at least 16 degrees at night. Air humidity should be within 65-70%.
To obtain a good harvest, tomatoes require manual pollination. The bushes shake slightly during the day when the humidity is lower.
When 7-8 brushes with fruits are formed, pinch the top of the main stem. This procedure allows the fruit to pour and ripen evenly.
Tomatoes of the Bull Heart variety are demanding for feeding. There must be at least 3 of them:
- after planting seedlings, after 14-21 days, the bushes are watered with mullein infusion
- after another 10 days - with a solution of chicken manure
- after 3 weeks - mullein.
Since the plants are tall and the fruits are heavy, it is necessary to set up wooden supports or pull on twine to fix the stems and brushes with tomatoes.
Growing Bovine Heart Tomatoes in the Open Field
The soil for tomatoes is prepared in the fall. Per sq. m bring 4 kg of rotted manure, 2 glasses of ash. If the gardener uses mineral fertilizers, then you can add:
- potassium chloride - 1 tbsp. l.
- superphosphate - 5 tbsp. l.
Dig up the soil by removing the roots of weeds.
Planting is carried out in mid-June. The holes are made at a distance of 50 cm. The feeding scheme coincides with those that are carried out in the greenhouse. Watering the Oxheart tomatoes, if there is no rain, you need to twice a week. More often during the July heat.

Svetlana Kalashnikova: “I have never grown eggplants before, but I love these vegetables madly. And last year I decided to start landing. I studied varieties for a long time, chose seeds, read reviews. I opted for the Bull's Heart variety. And, I must say, I have never regretted my choice. I ordered seeds by mail. I put them in a plastic container. I used the land from the garden, while adding a little peat to it.
She watered and ventilated every day, and then covered with a lid, creating a greenhouse effect. Germination rate is 100%. When the sprouts grew, I made a dive, transplanted into plastic cups. When the seedlings reached a height of 10 cm, they took them outside, and after a couple of weeks they planted them in the garden. All the seedlings were accepted. The harvest was just wonderful. I was especially pleased with the weight of the fruits - some reached 800 g ”.
Anna B .: “I have been planting this variety for many years now. Really like. Excellent germination, fruiting too. I am very satisfied. I use it for canning and stuffing. One fruit is enough to make a saute to feed the whole family. "
