Superkabachok Iskander: features of the variety and its cultivation

Iskander F1 is just that kind of zucchini, acquaintance with which can be a pleasant surprise in the new gardening season. It is very early ripening, harvestable, undemanding to care for, and its taste is just excellent.

Description of the Iskander variety, its characteristics, growing region

Zucchini of the Iskander F1 variety is a relatively recent hybrid of Dutch selection that appeared in Russia. It was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2006 as a parthenocarpic hybrid of the first generation. Approved for cultivation in the North-West, Volgo-Vyatka, Nizhnevolzhsky, Ural, West Siberian and Far Eastern regions. Iskander belongs to the early maturing varieties of zucchini. It is recommended not only for private, but also for industrial production, due to its undemanding care, tolerance to adverse weather conditions and high yield. From one hectare can be removed, according to the State Register, - 916 centners per hectare.

Iskander is one of the best modern zucchini varieties

The plant is powerful, compact, erect. Leaves of medium dissection are dark green in color with a pronounced spotting. Fruits are light green in color with light specks and veins and snow-white pulp. The average length of fruits is 18–20 cm. Marketable weight - 500-650 grams. From each bush on the site, you can collect up to 15-17 kg of ripe fruits.

The bush is compact, upright, powerful

Distinctive features of the variety

One of the distinguishing features of the Iskander variety is its early ripeness - the matured fruits can already be removed 35–40 days after planting the seeds in the soil. The variety is capable of setting fruit even at relatively low temperatures. If you grow zucchini under a film, the result can be obtained even earlier.

The skin of Iskander zucchini is very thin and tender.

Another important advantage of the Iskander variety is its high productivity. That is why the variety is recommended for industrial cultivation. According to the State Register, the maximum yield is higher than the standard Gribovskiye 37 by 501 c / ha and is 916 c / ha, for the first two harvests - 139 c / ha.

The advantage of the variety is its resistance to diseases with powdery mildew and anthracnose.

Features of planting and growing

The best predecessors for zucchini:

  • potatoes;
  • onion;
  • early cabbage and cauliflower;
  • legumes;
  • roots.

It is possible to grow Iskander zucchini both in a seedless way and using seedlings.

Seedling method of growing

You need to sow seeds a month before planting seedlings in open ground, i.e. in the last decade of April. If the seedlings are planned to be planted under a film, you can start preparing them already in mid-April.

Seed preparation

In order for the seeds to germinate faster, and the seedlings to be strong and friendly, they need to be prepared. There are several ways, but most often the seeds are soaked in warm water for a day, and then they are kept in a damp cloth for several days at a temperature of about 25aboutC, preventing the fabric from drying out.

It is useful to pre-harden the seeds by placing them in the lower compartment of the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Seeds should be properly prepared before sowing.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

You can grow seedlings on a sunny windowsill in an apartment or in a greenhouse.

The nutrient mix for squash seedlings can be composed as follows:

  • 5 parts of peat,
  • 4 parts of humus,
  • 1 part sawdust
  • half a glass of wood ash and 6–5 g of ammonium nitrate per bucket of mixture.

The mixture is filled in cups without a bottom (10 × 10 cm), poured with warm water and seeds are embedded in them to a depth of 3-4 cm.

Seedling care

Temperature conditions are important for the proper growth and development of plants. The optimal temperature conditions are as follows:

  • before emergence - 18–25 ° С;
  • after emergence within 4–5 days at night 12–15 ° С, in the daytime 15–20 ° С;
  • further, before landing in the ground, it is necessary to maintain 13–17 ° С at night, and 17–22 ° С during the day.

Watering is carried out only with warm water (+ 25 ° C) - 1l / 8 plants after 5 days.

Top dressing

The first feeding is carried out a week after germination: 0.5 tsp. urea / 1l of water, consumption - half a glass / plant.

2nd feeding - after another week: 1 tsp nitrophoska / 1 liter of water, consumption - a glass / plant.

In order for the seedlings to grow strong, it is necessary to observe the thermal regime, carry out fertilizing and watering

Planting seedlings in the ground

Seedlings are planted in the ground when the threat of frost has passed. Better if it is a prepared steam bed or steam heap.

Steam ridges are arranged as deepened, warmed ridges, with a deeper pit, in which, by changing biofuel every year, early vegetables are grown for several years.
When the size of the area for steam beds is insignificant, all preparation and installation work is done manually. A plow is often used to build steam beds over large areas. The ridges are made 20 m long and no more than 30 m. The width of the pit is 1-1.1 m, the width of the finally prepared bed is 1.2 m, the width between the ridges is 50-60 cm. The rows are located from north to south.
It is advisable to make steam and manure ridges only 1.20 m wide, since with such a width, biofuel is better used, and secondly, it makes it easier to care for plants and in the event of a cold snap, free greenhouse frames can be used to protect the plants, placing them on the slabs, poles and other coasters along the ridge.

By this time, the seedlings should have well developed 2-3 true leaves. Before planting, the seedlings and holes should be well watered with warm water. A plant with a lump of earth is lowered into a hole below ground level by 2-3 cm and tightly squeezed with earth to cotyledon leaves.

It is better to cover the surface of the bed with a dark film to preserve heat, and put wire arches over the bed with a film stretched over them, which will make it possible to plant seedlings 2-3 weeks earlier.

Planting seeds directly into the ground

After the preliminary preparation of the seeds (see above), they are planted in the prepared soil. But dry seeds can also be planted. Planting depth depends on the quality of the soil: for light soils it can be 6-7 cm, for heavy soils - 3-4 cm. The distance between individual plants should be 1 m, between rows - 1.5 m. 2 seeds are planted in one hole in order to leave one more powerful plant in the future.

Zucchini love fertile soils, so preliminary preparation is also required:

  • If the soil is sandy loam, then you should add a bucket of peat, humus, sawdust and sod land / m2 ;
  • The same composition is required to improve loam - 2-3 kg / m2.

It is better if the soil is prepared in advance so that the earth settles down for at least a week. The place for the zucchini should be sunny and warm.

Planting times can vary from early May to early June. The main condition is a well-warmed soil. Otherwise, the seeds may not sprout or the plants will be sick for a long time.

Iskander's seeds sprout quickly enough. At a temperature of 15-16aboutSeedlings will appear on the fifth day.

Seeds should be planted in well-warmed soil.

Zucchini care

Zucchini care includes timely watering, fertilizing, loosening and mulching the soil with the removal of weeds.

Watering the zucchini before flowering is enough once a week, and from the moment the ovaries appear, it should be doubled: 5-10 liters of water / plant. Watering is carried out with heated, settled water directly under the root, so as not to cause rotting of ovaries and leaves.

Water the zucchini directly under the root

Top dressing

It is recommended to carry out 3 dressings for the whole season:

  • in the phase of 3-4 true leaves, fertilize with the following composition: 20 g of ammonium nitrate, 20 g of potassium nitrate, 40 g of superphosphate / bucket of water; it is good to feed the plants with infusion of chicken flight (in a ratio of 1:20) or mullein (1:10) - 2 liters per plant;
  • at the time of the appearance of the ovaries: 50 g of superphosphate and potassium nitrate / 10 l of water;
  • repetition of the previous feeding during the fruiting period.

Zucchini respond well to organic fertilizing

Loosening and mulching

The difficulty of this operation lies in the fact that the roots of the squash are very close to the soil surface. Therefore, loosening is carried out with caution, shallow. If you mulch the soil with a mixture of peat and humus, then loosening will be easier.

Over time, to improve the light regime, it is necessary to periodically remove the lower leaves.

Last year, this variety also attracted my attention, primarily by its unusual name (because our son is a rocketman who serves in a unit where rocket launchers with the same name are in service). And in mid-May I planted several Iskanders through seedlings, which perfectly tolerated the transplant. In early June, a prolonged cold snap began, but Iskander withstood it steadfastly, even the leaves did not turn yellow. We were able to remove the first fruits already at the beginning of July. The Iskander variety pleased us with quite abundant fruiting throughout the season, although the weather remained rainy and cold all summer. Now this hybrid will remain my favorite in the future.

Zucchini of the Iskander variety is stored for up to six months, provided that for this purpose the fruits are torn off after the skin has hardened. Otherwise, the fruit will start to deteriorate much earlier.

Optimum storage temperature - no higher than +10aboutFROM. The room must be dry and dark.

Fruits can be stored chopped frozen.

Iskander zucchini can be a pleasant find in the new season

If you decide to get to know the Iskander zucchini closer, it's time to stock up on seeds. He will certainly please with a decent harvest if the conditions described in the article are met.

Iskander zucchini: a Dutchman honored by many farmers

Zucchini is one of the most popular crops in our country. After all, zucchini is a very healthy, low-calorie vegetable. Today there are many different varieties of zucchini, and it is difficult for a novice gardener to decide on the choice of suitable seeds. Everyone wants to find a fruitful, unpretentious variety with a minimum amount of seeds in the pulp. These include Iskander zucchini - a highly productive variety with excellent taste characteristics.

The density of the pulp of the variety is high, it is very juicy, fibrous with a low sugar content. The zucchini weight is 1.6 kg. The tasters rate the taste as good. Inside the fruit are medium, milky white elliptical seeds. The yield reaches 975 centners per hectare.

Note! The number of varieties and hybrids of zucchini for different regions of Russia and countries with similar climatic conditions significantly exceeds 200. And it is impossible to describe them even for one region

We have listed the best, according to gardeners' reviews, varieties and hybrids of zucchini and those varieties and hybrids that I grow in my garden.

Landing in open ground

The optimal time for planting seeds in open ground is the last decade of May or the first decade of June. By this time, the soil will warm up to the desired temperature of 10-12 ° C. Despite the fact that this plant tolerates cold well, seeds are planted in a calm and sunny place for rapid germination and growth.

The seeds are deepened into prepared grooves at a distance of 60 cm from each other. Planting seeds is required with the sharp end down. Top crops are sprinkled with earth, watered with warm water. At night, it is better to cover them with a film or any non-woven material, because the air is cooler at night and can negatively affect the speed of seed germination.

As the seedlings grow and develop, they thin out, removing elongated, thin and yellowed stems. Strong sprouts are planted in an empty place. Caring for zucchini is simple and consists of the following:

  1. Watering and loosening. The plantings are moistened as the soil dries. Up to 5 liters of water are poured under each bush. In a rainy summer, humidification is carried out no more than once a week or less often. Waterlogging of the bushes can lead to decay of the root system and the death of plants. After watering, the soil is mulched, then surface loosening is performed so as not to damage the plant roots located close to the soil surface.
  2. Top dressing. For the entire season of growing marrow Iskander F1 needs to be fed three times. When two pairs of leaves appear, ammonium and potassium nitrate (20 g of each component) and 40 g of superphosphate are added under the bushes. The dry mixture is dissolved in a bucket of water. Also, as the first feeding, a mullein solution is suitable, for 20 liters of water there is 1 liter of substance. At the stage of ovary formation, marrow is fertilized with potassium nitrate and superphosphate - 50 g of each substance per bucket of water. Re-feeding is applied during the fruiting period, which increases the productivity of the bushes and the quality of the fruits.

This culture rarely gets sick and does not suffer from parasites, infection is possible only in case of improper care and non-compliance with the rules of crop rotation. In the fight against diseases such as gray rot, powdery mildew and anthracnose, Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate is used. For the extermination of parasites (spider mites, aphids, whiteflies), insecticides are used: Actellik, Confidor, Aktara or Fundazol.
